How're things going with the archive repairs? I'm sure that everything is being done that can be, but what's the prognosis?

We still have sporadically inaccessible releases, and the download counters are still frozen. I'm reluctant to try to put up anything new until everything's fixed, but we have a couple releases ready to go.

Does anyone (Simon?) know how long the counter repair will take to complete? I have a release ready and raring to go.

I was also wondering if any downloads are being captured while the system is down? Or will we all just start from where we currently are when it comes back online?

Any info gratefully received - I need to get some publicity going and have a radio station waiting to do an interview but I can't go ahead with it until I know for sure.

As you guys know, I 'admin' the netlabels section, but I just do so in my spare time and I'm not an Archive employee, nor do I physically work in their Presidio office.

In any case, all the info I've heard is that there was a major technical issue a couple of weeks ago which led to a large number of racks going down and much content being inaccessible.

The _majority_ of this has been fixed, and I've had some luck in asking to get other things fixed too, for example ZIP on the fly was just fixed for a number of machines.

But there are still some hardware problems and in addition, the search engine (which has been a little unreliable for many months, as some of you have spotted) is going through a period of particular problems.

Because it runs with soooo much data, the Archive is always a work in progress, and machines will go down on occasion, but I agree, the past 2-3 weeks have had more issues than any time that I can recall in my 5+ year history with the Archive. I know that the tech support staff are aware and are trying to fix the remaining issues though.
